Why start a blog?
Starting a blog for me will be like adding another Chapter in my book.. Placing an alternative for people to not see but also read my thoughts. I want to really start breaking down why I choose the pieces of clothing I wear and why I wear them the way I do.
“Dressing well is a form of good manners.” -Tom Ford
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t care about how I dressed when I made an appearance somewhere. Whether it be going to the grocery store to grab some bread or actually attending a fashion event. I ALWAYS dress presentable. Some people are like “it’s because you’re insecure” or “it’s not a fashion show Tanner..”. Well, the reason I dress nice is for me.. Yes thats’s right, not you, not the pretty girl next door or some street style photographer, it’s for ME. When I’m in an outfit that makes me feel good, that right there, can have a positive impact on my entire day! It’s kind of like making your bed when you wake up so no matter how bad your day was when you get home at least you have a bed that was made. Same applies to me for the clothing I wear, no matter how bad my day was atleast I looked good doing it!
“Dress everyday like you’re going to meet the love of your life.”
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s jump into THRIFTING. The photo seen above, I actually went thrifting for today! I paid $5 for the trousers and $1.99 for the vintage racing tee. When I go thrifting I may find all kinds of clothing I like or.. I may find nothing at all. You have to enjoy thrifting, because if you don’t enjoy it then chances are, you’re not going to find much… ever. Most people just look at a few kids soft ball tees and decide that they aren’t going to find anything. Don’t be that guy, keep looking friends! I enjoy the fact that I can just look through pieces that tell stories, whether it’s an old military jacket or a vintage racing tee. Every piece of clothing you see in a thrift store has a story behind it. Who would’ve known, right?
In my opinion, thrifting alone is they way to go (unless your friends enjoy it just as much) because don’t have to worry about a friend wanting to leave or your parents errands they need to run. It can just be you and the clothing.. tunnel vision if you will. When you’re browsing through clothing start putting outfits together in your head. For example, “this is a super dope vintage racing shirt, what do I have at home I could wear this with? Or what items should I look for here to complete this look?” Have an idea of what you’re grabbing so when you arrive to the fitting room you can not only see if it fits, but also throw a few outfits together! From my experience, most of the time the clothing just isn’t going to fit right. THAT’S OKAY! I probably buy 1 out of 5 pieces I find based off of fit and just aesthetic I’m pulling from the look all around. So don’t be sad if nothing fits right because chances are you’ll find something next time!
Going to a thrift store is ALWAYS an experience for me. It’s like opening a mystery box because you never know what you are going to find inside!!
